It appears that kids might actually need something more than cardboard boxes to be happy: door stops.
On that note, Annalee and I were talking about what her kindergarteners do during recess. At her school, the playground (which includes a large playground area with things to climb on, etc. and a large permanent covering that shades the entire area) probably cost more than $20,000 easily. The PTA spent lots and lots of money on that stuff to keep their kids shaded and entertained. So what do the kids do? They play with dirt and rocks out in the sun.
