I noticed a couple days back that my pinky fingers are all but forgotten. I almost never use them and that makes me sad.
Sure, I type all day long. But I developed the bad habit of leaving my pinkies out. I primarily use only four of my five fingers when typing. I’ve made a conscious effort to type at least more correctly but so far it hasn’t caught on as well as I had hoped.
I also started to think about how often I actually use my pinkies in general. My conclusion: not much. Ok, so every time I make a J in sign language I use it, you got me there. But other than that, is there much else?
I guess my biggest fear is that our pinkies might become like our spleen or appendix. They might not have any use at all anymore. If only the strong survive, eventually they might just fall off altogether.
I don’t know about you but I’m starting a hefty pinky exercise regimen ASAP.

Without pinkies, how could we distinguish the truly refined cocktail drinkers from the mere hoi polloi?
